This study refutes the traditional thesis that the censorship that was applied to Alfonsus García Matamoros’s De asserenda Hispanorum eruditione siue de uiris Hispaniae doctis narratio apologetica (Compluti, 1533) was due to his praise of Cyprianus de la Huerga according to a missing document from the National Historical Archives. On the contrary, this paper puts forth the possibility that the aforesaid censorship was rather related to the long passage in praise of Constantinus Ponce de la Fuente by the rhetoric professor of the University of Alcalá de Henares that was deleted in later editions by A. Schott (1603), F. Cerdá y Rico (1769) and J. López de Toro (1943).
