Plutarch’s treatise De liberis educandis, as well as the rest of his works, was unknown during the Middel Ages. In 1411, when Guarino da Verona translated it into latin, begun his ample diffusion in Italy, and later in the rest of Europa. This latin translation was among Rodrigo de Arévalo’s books in the first half of the XVth century; he used it in his short pedagogical book, the first written in Spain, previous to Antonio de Nebrija’s one. Nebrija, on his turn, used also Guarino’s latin translation but from an exemplar different from Arevalo’s one.
