Abstract

The role of groundwater in the headwaters of rivers in mountainous areas is undervalued, despite its importance in maintaining the base flow of rivers and supporting numerous dependent ecosystems. However, mountain aquifers receive more precipitation and experience less evapotranspiration than the surrounding areas, making them a source of water supply for lower-altitude peripheral zones. The aim of this study was to present an assessment of recharge in a mountainous hydrological basin, developed on hard rocks, where no gauging station exists. The objective of this work has been to present an evaluation of recharge in a mountain hydrological basin, developed on hard rocks, in which there is no continuous gauging station.. For this purpose, the basin was monitored by gauging a control section and a rainfall-runoff model was built using HBV-Light, which made it possible:1) understanding the percentage of water that belongs to the direct runoff, interflow and baseflow, 2) quantifying the recharge in San Gregorio gorge.
