«Trouble in paradise»: la politización de la inmigración en los Países Bajos

El ascenso de Pim Fortuyn a principios de la década de 2000 se ha descrito como un «punto de inflexión en la política holandesa», es decir, el momento en que el populismo de extrema derecha y las posturas antiinmigración se convirtieron en un elemento permanente del debate público. ¿Cómo explicar esta rápida y sostenida politización de la inmigración en los Países Bajos? Para responder a la pregunta, este artículo repasa las principales pautas de politización de la inmigración y la integración desde la década de 1970, identifica los principales factores contextuales que facilitaron este proceso y analiza sus consecuencias en términos de políticas públicas. Una de sus principales conclusiones es que tanto los factores políticos como los culturales han sido clave para explicar la politización de la inmigración en los Países Bajos.
