Reviw. After a lifetime devoted to the meticulous study of the Divina Commedia, Carlos López Cortezo managed to reveal its analytical and allegorical character, which allowed him to design the novel research method he sets out in this posthumous book and which, during his lifetime, he was able to share with his disciples, giving rise to a school of scholars who today enjoy great prestige in the field of international Danteanism. The need, in his opinion, to carry out a genuine "textual restoration" that would strip the text of the mythifying critical readings that had been attached to it for centuries, led López Cortezo to exegesis a whole series of elements of this universal work –similes, gestures, periphrasis, mythological characters, interpretatio nominum, etc.–, while at the same time delving, step by step, into episodes as important as those of Geryon, Francesca, Brunetto and Ulysses. In this way he manages to delineate and reveal the moral structure of the Inferno (theological and moral-philosophical), the latest version of which is the one offered in this volume.
