The author presents various concepts of so-called ‘children’s cities’, which have been practised in some European countries since the early 1980s. He analyses these pedagogically staged forms of children’s participation and self-government from the point of view of the extent to which they contribute to promoting children’s active citizenship and to changing the exclusionary and adult-centred structures of cities in the best interests of children.
