Abstract

Before the creation of Banco de la República in 1923, several currencies actively circulated in Colombia. The information on them is distributed across widespread sources. This represents a structural limitation for longterm analyses of the economy of the period. This paper addresses this issue by systematizing the information available on all those Colombian currencies between 1850 and 1923. It provides a table of exchange rates to convert amounts between any two currencies during the period, thus generating a useful tool for economic historians of the region.
