Analyzing good practices in Green Infrastructure design: the case study of Malaga city

The benefits of Green Infrastructure (GI) are presented, and the GI plans of several Spanish cities are analyzed. The steps and orientations to implement it are extracted from such plans, systematizing them. Afterwards, that framework is applied to the city of Malaga. This city faces numerous environmental challenges, which justifies the need for a GI plan, given its potential in the transition towards a sustainable urban planning. Finally, a bibliographic review is carried out, of works both from the institutional and academic sphere and from civil society, about elements that should be part of Malaga’s GI. For there are plenty of proposals that can fall under this umbrella concept, and it would be sufficient to articulate them in a connected and coherent plan that does not leave aside the key issue of their legal protection.
