Abstract

The application of Regional Geographic Analysis to the social construction of the territory allows a deeper knowledge and redirecting of urban-rural relationships, and that is why it may be a suitable tool in order to embedding agrarian multifunctionality in urban planning. The aim of this paper is to analyze the study case of the 2011’ Málaga PGOU (General Urban Master Planning) and its approach to Montes de Málaga (Málaga Hills). Firstly, the methodology stands on the construction of this territory based on bibliography. Secondly, literature is used to contextualize the analysis of this subject, and finally, the analysis of the PGOU regulations related to Montes de Málaga is presented. The conclusions reveal that this PGOU subordinates the agrarian multifunctionality of Montes de Málaga to the sole consideration of the environmental values as perceived by the city inhabitants but at the expense of a rural-urban relationship focused on the complementarities of their functions (local markets).
