The rehabilitation strategies in Housing Plans: Autonomous Community of Valencia 1986-2015
Keywords:
Architectonic rehabilitation, housing, historical centres, master plansAbstract
The historical centres of Valencia have not been able to take maximum advantage of the
tools contained in the official housing plans. The aid, always scarce, has maintained a social bias
from its origins and this has predominated over the conservation criteria of the architectonic
heritage. The effects of the official strategies regarding protected housing carried out in the
Autonomous Community of Valencia since 1991 on the architectonic rehabilitation are analysed. The
hypothesis is maintained that they could have been an effective tool for the recuperation of the
urban fabric and, however, they have contributed in a very modest form to alleviate the emptying of
the city centres. It is concluded that their effects on the architectonic heritage have been modest in
accordance with the significant assistance nature of the official policies.
