Abstract

Spatial-planning theory has undergone a profound transformation since it first began in
the early twentieth century, as has the planning model applied. This paper describes the
development of the succession of ideas and theories and the effects that they have had on planning.
In view of these experiences, the paper concludes by posing certain key questions that are necessary
to improve the decision-making process in planning.
