Abstract

The current economic crisis has cast doubt on the discourses that have proclaimed that
industry was disappearing from the production model and have conditioned urban-development
and planning policy in Spain over the last three decades. As urban agendas have increasingly
turned their attention to industry, a need has been revealed for the complexity of industrial activity
today to be reinterpreted, seeking new instruments to support it from an overall, holistic perspective.
A review of the main arguments that were used to build the post-industrial discourse serves as the
basis for establishing a reading of the constituent parts of today’s neo-industrial narrative, focusing
on its involvement in urban planning by analysing the different approaches, strategies and practices
that have been developed to date.
