The paper would have it that Terán’s principle contribution is to be found in that part of Architecture
that concerns itself with the building of cities, this where the city is understood as a vast, complex
and problem-laden human artefact in which things physical are close meshed with others political,
social or economic. This city is for Terán a fi eld of forces in fl ux that is forever re-organizing itself
and expressing this through spatial manifestations. Forever keeping in mind the conditioning
factors of its siting, for the authors it is these physical outcomes of the city that have most exercised
Terán’s mind in his theoretic and practical research. The paper is centred upon a classifying and
describing of the major contributions of Teran’s professional undertakings and publications during
a half-century of thought and action tied in with the city and Territory. The result aims at pointing
up the principle lessons to be leant from his thinking and endeavour.
