Abstract

The paper is the outcome of studies undertaken in the cities of Porto Alegre, Brazil and Córdoba, Argentina
on the issue of residential segregation in both of these. Said studies sought to establish the impact of
industrial restructuring in these metropolitan areas and their respective societies as within the present day
context of globalization. The authors thus purpose a deepening of the understanding of the effects of
restructuring on urban space and the dynamics of the same in its effects upon the upsurge of social and
spatial inequality.
