Metamorphosis of urban growth forms: planning, management and morphotypology of urban development models in democracy

The years between the death of the dictator and the consolidation of the democratic state are marked by deep changes: a new institutional design in the democratic Constitution, plus that derived from joining supranational organisations, with their implications in terms of competences but also in economic and financial terms; the new technical-legal framework of the Land Act and its regulations; the new architectural-urban culture, which criticises the preceding modernity and embraces an incipient postmodernity; the socio-economic transformations on ways of life and the desired city. All produce a metamorphosis of the forms of urban growth. It shows how the resulting morphotypological patterns in new urban developments do not respond to a single factor, but to the interweaving of several ones, and the implication of these in the representative urban forms of the last half century.
