EDUCATION AND MODERN HERITAGE: THE INDIVIDUAL AND THE ROOM OF ONE´S OWN
Main Article Content
Abstract
INTRODUCTION. It is widely recognised that New Technologies imply changes in every area of our life, especially since the first decade of 2000. Barely a decade has gone by and it already seems as if we have always had what were considered novelties just a few years ago. These changes have happened so fast that we have hardly had time to think about them. Perhaps we have gotten so used to New Technologies that we are adopting the same pattern of thought that allows them to develop so fast, namely, gazing at the future and, at the same time, forgetting a past that, whether we like it or not, makes us be what we are. Reflecting about a past that constructs our present becomes, therefore, an urgent matter. This article seeks to contribute to this study by focusing on two concepts inherited from the Modern Age, namely, the individual and the room of one´s own. METHODS. The concepts of «the individual» and «the room of one´s own» will be explored in the following pages, following a methodology of documentary research. RESULTS. Firstly, we will note the importance of having a genuine individuality as much as a room of one´s own in the education of a human being. We will then show in what way these concepts are currently changing. DISCUSSION. To conclude, we hightlight the importance of pedagogical reflection regarding the concepts of «individuality» and «a room of one´s own».
