Abstract

INTRODUCTION. This article exhibit the results of a study orientated to show the association between physical activity level, studies level and remaining years of sentence with regard to professional interests in the prison population. METHOD. It’s an descriptive–correlational investigation in which 158 male inmates of Penitentiary Center “Jaén II”, chosen by random sampling. Data analysis has been based on the calculation of basic descriptive statistics variables and linear regression, binary logistic regression, analysis of variance and covariance. RESULTS. They show how the inmates with studies have more professional interests linked with military-safety; the same applies to those with physical inactivity. The inmates with low studies level, which is the majority of them, present wides pread apathy to professional field. Those whose sentence is reduced more than three years, have more, than twice as likely, that the field of adventure and risk not justifying departure. DISCUSSION. The main conclusion of th estudy shows differences from previous investigations in penitentiary context and show how there is a positive association between level studies and professional interestsand preferences of inmates. In the same way, it is found that the failure to practice any physical activity involves an interest in professions related to physical activity it self, becoming a strong motivator for inmates who see a future sports career opportunity that will route their reintegration.
