Consumption policies: transformations in the process of work and fragmentation of lifestyles
Abstract
This article analyses the elements that made possible the leap from and industrial economy of production —restricted to the production of equipment goods and a short series of basic goods— to an economy in which a great deal of goods with commercial brands destined to a mass consumption are generalised. The article also analyses the links established between this modern mercantile universe and the complementary processes of reproduction of labour power, capital accumulation and economic growth. Finally the article provides a theoretical overview of consumption studies dealing with classical and more contemporary approaches in light of the debate between advocates and critics of postfordism.Downloads
