The purpose of this paper is to analyze a selection of Latin texts (Lucretius, Varro, Vergilius, Liuius and Ouidius) devoted to the Cybele goddess. They are basic texts that help us to know the treatment that has the goddess in the later mythography. The selected texts of Liuius, Ouidius and Vergilius could be taken as an introduction to present the goddess Cybele and her cult during the time of her great splendour in Rome. Some years before, Lucretius and specially Varro had offered a mythographic and symbolic vision which will have a direct connection with Isidorus Hispalensis’s chapter, and in general with the later mythographic descriptions.Downloads
