Europa en movimiento: la migración desde y hacia Europa Central y del Este

Dos hechos históricos tienen una importancia fundamental en la configuración de las nuevas tendencias migratorias en Europa Central y del Este (ECE): el colapso del bloque soviético y el retorno de la región a Europa, cuyo hito principal ha sido la adhesión de los primeros ocho países a la Unión Europea el 1 de mayo de 2004. Antes de 1990, y durante varias décadas, la migración internacional fue contenida por los regímenes totalitarios de la ECE. A partir de este escenario, el presente trabajo describe la variedad de movimientos migratorios surgidos después de 1989 en la región; analiza los procesos migratorios desde y hacia la ECE tras su adhesión a la Unión Europea; y examina las posibles causas que estarían en la base del tamaño, las dinámicas y la dirección geográfica de los flujos migratorios que se produjeron entre la UE-8 y la UE-15 desde la ampliación de la UE hacia el Este.
