Abstract

Research on teacher educators has made significant progress in the international scientific literature, as a result of their role and the work they carry out in the initial preparation of future teachers. However, in Latin America, and particularly in Chile, its study is still a pending research agenda. The objective of this scoping review is to examine the current state of the scientific literature on teacher educators in Chile between 2008 and 2022. The methodological recommendations of the PRISMA-ScR (Preferred Reporting Items for Systemic Reviews and Meta-Analyses for Scoping Reviews) statement were used. The research revealed that there is a growing interest in the study of teacher educators in the Chilean context. Specifically, progress has been made mainly in three thematic areas: (a) didactic strategies; (b) thinking; and (c) professional development of teacher educators. It is hoped that this work will contribute to making visible the role and work of this group of professionals within the training programs. It also seeks to promote the development of this field of study to complement what has already been reported, and to advance in those areas that have not yet been explored.
