Mental health, care leavers, social and health prevention, transition to adulthoodAbstract
The growing mental health problems in young people are increasing in the most vulnerable populations such as care leavers, and knowing the causes and establishing prevention strategies is considered essential to improve their quality of life. The aim of this research was to identify the particularities in the physical and mental health of young people in exile, their causes and the actions taken to address them. To this end, twenty semi-structured interviews were carried out with care leavers and fifteen professionals involved in socio-educational intervention with this group. A prevalence of mental health problems associated with their history, the consumption of toxic substances and the migration process is evident. In this scenario, socio-health promotion and prevention strategies emerge to facilitate a healthy transition to adult life.
