The present work includes a conceptual approach to the term neglect, its incidence, etiology and consequences in neurodevelopment, as well as the study with a sample of 176 children and adolescents at risk derived from the Basic Social Services to a specialized resource care for children and adolescents in vulnerable situations, in a Risk Statement or with a Legal Protection Measure. The general purpose was to deepen the study of Family Neglect. To this end and with a, descriptive and exploratory methodology, we proceeded to the use of self-reported tests, evaluation of the family and evaluation of the tutor from the school area (SENA) and to the utilization of an instrument to evaluate the severity of the risk situations (Balora) by professionals. From the data collected, neglect is considered as the most frequent form of abuse related to the internalizing and externalizing disorders that these children and adolescents present. Finally, some proposals are made to continue studying along these lines and to improve the knowledge of neglect as well as the minimization of its impact on the affected childhood and adolescence.
