Abstract

The paper is centred upon a study of indicator systems for the evaluating of local policy in terms of its
sustained development effects. Said study uses as its starting point an analysis of the principal current
international working methods on which indicator systems have been based world-wide. It then moves on
to look into certain Spanish undertakings in the same field to the end of coming at the key aspects that
such indicator systems could be said to share. The work is rounded out by a contrasting of the opportunity
when using and grounds for improvement inherent to such indicators that should always be kept in mind
when a sustained development study is in question.
