The intervention area is located in Santa Coloma de Gramenet, a city located in Barcelona province, close to the Besós river park. The project consists of the urban renovation of an area of 360 housing and 26 retail spaces, that were built between 1968 and 1974. Within these years the area experienced a fast and unplanned growth turning into several urban problems. One of the main objectives of the intervention was the improvement of the quality of life and health of the inhabitants. They were mainly elderly and with low pensions that suffered in many cases from energy poverty due to the lack of buildings’ energy efficiency. The renovation conducted had to combine different stages in which the improvement of the thermal comfort, the identity and the urban landscape were very present. All these activities were complemented by a complex process of management and mediation between the local administration and homeowner’s associations in order to get consensus for the funding and intervention.
