This paper analyzes the well-being and sustainability of 63 medium- and large-sized Spanish cities. To this end, a battery of 30 indicators grouped into 10 dimensions that reflect different economic, social, cultural, labor, educational or environmental aspects has been used. In addition, they have been grouped into three important components for any urban environment, linked to sustainable, intelligent and resilient development, to make up the city's Fundamental Power index, with the DP2 distance methodology, a procedure that has been widely used in different areas of the social and regional economy. It is concluded that urban Fundamental Power is higher in medium-sized cities of less than 100 000 inhabitants, being lower for large cities of more than 400 000 people and the megalopolises of Madrid and Barcelona.
