The concept of green belt is a set up which is being implemented within the urban planning of cities of different sizes and locations. Nowadays it is very relevant. There are, in fact, many cities that have adopted this system which implements typologies of great importance for the necessary urban green infrastructure. The example of Vitoria-Gasteiz is one of the best known in Spain. In the mid 80’s it was decided to work on this system. Since then, many were the steps taken towards its development. The main objective of this project is to analyze precisely the diachronic evolution of this system from its insertion till the present day. For this purpose, both municipal archives and aerial pictures from different dates have been analyzed and consulted, although only those in relation with the transformation of the sectors. A progressive evolution was attested over time, although the biggest development happened in the 90’s. The results show an uneven evolution by sector.
