Abstract

The paper examines recent change in the access to and uses made of technologies that could feed
Town and Country Planning endeavour. Analysis is made of accessing geographic information over
internet systems (geo-visual scanners and special data banks) and the importance of being able to
do so when planning (freeing up access to data and a greater scope for public participation). The
author likewise offers some examples of the promise of Geographic Information Technology for Town
and Country Planning and gives special attention to the putting into practice of multi-criteria
methodologies and the usefulness of these in aptitude and impact studies, facilities and services
accessing and, last but not least, the following up on and simulation of spatial cum-temporal urban
processes.
