Local networks and interactive learning. The export support industry in the Bio-Bio region, Chile

The paper investigates the tie-up between the possibilities of setting in motion learning processes
as to local export industries with ways open for getting into local technological and commercial
networks. Various methodological approaches are used to make a longitudinal analysis of these
networks and then others of various business sectors. The longitudinal approach takes in 42
companies involve in timber or fi shing support activities in the Bio-Bio region, Chile. The authors
fi nd that in the main the companies that learn best are those focussed in on their sales while
enjoying the support of technological associates in the region.
