Abstract

This paper reviews the practice of Environmental Impact Assessment in Catalonia, using to do so a general
survey of Environmental Impact Studies as submitted prior to the end of the year 2000. Emphasis is placed
upon their social and economic aspects. One of the review’s conclusions is that the social environment
is hardly taken into account at all. A second is that the mitigating measures proposed in the EIS represent
another area still very open to major improvement.
