Abstract

The aim of this research is the assessment of a parental training program, called «Family co-responsibility (COFAMI): how to develop children’s cooperation and responsibility» (Maganto & Bartau, 2004). The purpose of this program is to provide parents with enough educational strategies and resources to bring up their sons and daughters in an egalitarian way and to encourage co-responsibility in housework and family life, both in the current families and in future generations. The sample consists of 126 fathers and mothers (mothers=102, fathers=24) and 244 children from several kinds of institutions from the Basque Country. A quasi-experimental design is used and also carried out the pretest-implementation-posttest phases. The conclusions can be summed up: 1) the Program COFAMI has had a relevant impact and has been successfully carried out with parents from different background and institutional contexts; 2) the target for what it was designed has been achieved; 3) the results show how useful this program could be in areas of educational resources in order to educate children in co-responsibility.
