The Creative Ambivalences of Book: from Monotheism to Modern Fundamentalism

To Merlin Donald, the advent of external memory devices is one of the creative landmarks that let us to explain the develop of theoretical culture. This text analyzes the evolution of the paper fulfilled for one of these devices, the book, focusing in two events: in the rise of abrahamic monotheism and in the modern fundamentalism. For getting our aim we propose an investigation articulated in three levels: 1. We study how writing culture and the book help to the rise of theoretical culture and to the develop of axial societies. 2. We study the transition from book to sacred book and their importance for the rise of abrahamic monotheism. 3. We analyze religious fundamentalism, in attempting to elucidate the role that plays sacred book in this social phenomena. Finally, we analyze the degree of creativity linked with each level.
