Notatae similitudines/ notae similitudines: From Rhetorica ad Herennium to Ars memoratiua

In this paper we aim to explain the reasons for which, during the Renaissance, the reading notas similitudines is preferred (as opposed to the commonly accepted present-day notatas similitudines) in the passage Rhetorica ad Herennium (3, 37) that describes the function of the memoria artificialis and, more specifically, the composition of imagines firmae.
