The Tabuenca – Rodanas anticline is a NW-SE structure located in the northern sector of the Aragonese Branch of the Iberian Chain. It is composed by a wide variety of Palaeozoic and Mesozoic materials. The structures found in this area are the result of three tectonic stages. Firstly, the basement was folded during the Variscan orogeny, this same stage giving rise to NW-SE anticlines and synclines due to N-S or NE-SW compression. The Late Variscan evolution is recorded in kilometric NW-SE faults that compartmentalise the Paleozoic basement and the formation of Permian extensional basins. The Mesozoic rifting stage is recorded in the formation of large NW-SE faults bounding Triassic basins and in the fracturing of the materials, giving two directions of extension, NE-SW and NW-SE. Finally, the Alpine orogeny is reflected by the reactivation of faults and the formation of NW-SE folds due to NE-SW compression.
