Abstract

Creativity is an essential skill that must be worked on in the classroom. One way to do this is through music. The new currents of creative musical pedagogies maintain that the use of non-tonal music and unconventional sounds, digital technological means and interdisciplinary approaches, favor creativity in school music education. In our study we analyzed the teaching practices of music teachers with a questionnaire adapted from Urrutia (2012) to determine the degree of importance and application of creative and non-creative activities in music and their possible relationship with the teachers' personal abilities and educational stage (Primary and Secondary). The sample was made up of 60 active teachers specialized in music. The results showed that teachers give less importance and dedicate less time to creative activities and more to less creative activities, that they are far from the didactic proposals of active and creative musical pedagogies and that the educational stage can be a determining factor. In addition, some personal skills of the teacher are related to the degree of importance and use of some creative practices in the classroom such as improvisation and composition, among others.
