The advancement of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) has had a significant impact on education, with social networks becoming essential communication and connection tools for future teachers. Students have access to various technological resources that allow them to exchange information and connect with different people, enhancing their learning processes. However, excessive use of these platforms can negatively affect students both personally and academically.
The objective of this research is to analyze the factors that influence the impact of social network usage on the academic and socio-emotional aspects of trainee teachers in university settings. The study employs a quantitative ex post facto methodology, generating a Structural Equation Model (SEM).
The main results indicate gender differences, with male students experiencing a greater academic and socio-emotional impact due to social media use. Additionally, the time spent using electronic devices and social networks influences educational performance and relationships with both family and peers.
Therefore, it is essential to assess the academic use of social networks and guide students toward best educational and technological practices to mitigate the negative effects of excessive usage.
