Abstract

Non-communicable chronic diseases generated by unhealthy lifestyles are one of the most worldwide death causes. The preventive benefits of healthy lifestyles at childhood are well-known. The aim of this study was to analyse healthy lifestyles education within the BSc. in Early Childhood Teacher.

A systematic environmental scan was completed regarding the syllabus from each Spanish university that offers the Bachelor of Science (BSc). in Early Childhood Teacher for the 2022-2023 academic year. The number of European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) was accounted for subjects that address any healthy lifestyle curricular element.

The results shown an average of 10.03 (rage from 0 to 34) ECTS credit concerning healthy lifestyles, entailing 4.18 % (range from 0 % to 14.16 %) of the total of 240. Most of the healthy styles curricular elements were related to general and specific competences of the BSc. in question. Furthermore, there are six universities with less than 6 ECTS, one of them without content related to the aim of this study.

Healthy lifestyles education is deficient in terms of number of ECTS credits comprising the BSc. in Early Childhood Teacher in the Spanish university system, suggesting the need to increase this education for pre-service teachers.
