Abstract

This article provides new evidence regarding the evolution of prices and wages in the eighteenth century. Unlike most of the works so far available, this focuses on a small population core, the episcopal town of El Burgo de Osma (Soria), located in an area also lesser studied, the high valley of the Duero. The local price index describes the same trends and cycles as those of other larger population. On the other hand, an analysis of the relationship between real wages and the workload indicates that in the course of the eighteenth century there was a remarkable increase in work.
