Abstract

With this paper we try to make public some data and hypotheses on the impact of forced labour in the Spanish economy within the context of the Civil War and immediate post-war, so that we can bring Spanish historiography closer to some of the central debates of European research about forced labour in a war and dictatorship context, such as the weight of forced labour in a war and post-war economy, and the strategies of the State and enterprises towards it. This article notes the absence of full details on the deployment of forced labourers according to economic activity or geographical location, and the need to tackle with this absence, beginning with local or regional investigations.
