Abstract

The paper opens by stating that one of the basic premises in territorial analysis is that territory has effects
on social dynamics. However, this approach is not normally adopted when analysing an active citizen role
in politics, for all democratic theory’s fascination with about the importance of scale in citizen participation.
This paper presents a preliminary analytical exploration as to the possible effect of territory on citizen
political participation, as well as an empirical analysis of the same as for Spain. The principal goal sought
is to draw attention to the structuring role played by territory in determining socio-political dynamics.
