Abstract

In a hyperconnected and ever-changing world, where global problems require local solutions and local problems need global interventions, it is very important to understand the role that cities and towns have to play. In this new world of threats and opportunities, this role must be linked to a shared set of transformative actions -through culture, education, ethics and coexistence- leading to economically productive, socially inclusive, and environmentally sustainable cities and towns. All this should be done from a paradigm shift in governance, based on co-creation, traceability of decisions, permanent evaluation and accountability and communication, in order to strengthen the social, personal, cultural and economic empowerment of citizens.
