Abstract

The far-reaching socioeconomic transformations that have been occurring since the late
twentieth century have accelerated and deepened yet further in recent years, as evidence of a major
crisis that is leading to new forms of territorial inequality. In this reference context, this paper is
intended to serve as a critical reflection on the socioeconomic transformations that are associated
with the economic crisis, particularly the territorial changes that are being generated at different
spatial scales, using certain significant indicators as an example of this. The aim is therefore to
perform an analysis from a general perspective, assuming that although whole outlooks tend to
simplify the facts, there are useful for systematising information and facilitating participation in
joint thinking and discussion.
