Abstract

The paper tells of how Spain, along with Japan, Korea and Germany, was one of the success stories
of the second part of the twentieth century, especially when it came to economic growth, Spain
becoming a highly developed country (the seventh so though now-a-days the eleventh) and enjoying
as such the advantages of a well-founded Welfare State and excellent housing and ground-space
production fi gures. (some 150 cities of all sizes comparable to any others world wide of similar
dimensions). And she still attracts both immigrants and tourists. And she is one of the oldest
surving states in the world (the twelfth so) and her density of population is low and she offers high
quality and plentiful housing (30 million units for 47 million people and a further 65 million for
tourists and furthermore, building type-wise, planning-wise and residentially speaking Spain is all
but brand new as more than half her housing is less than thirty years old.
