Abstract

This article covers the methodology for the development of alternative solutions for outside spaces
based on DB-HS3 Indoor air quality. From a typological study and the climatic conditions of several
Spanish cities, it examines the mechanisms involved in courtyard ventilation processes, both as to
the effects of atmospheric wind and those of free convection brought on by differences of
temperature.
This is then followed by a numerical study grounded upon experimental research on alternative
solutions to the usual and established models which quantifi es the capacity of these when it comes
to providing good quality air for ventilating houses opening out upon such spaces.
