Reconciling the Environment, Political Power and Private Initiative
Keywords:
Gestión ambiental, mercado inmobiliario, Florianópolis (Brasil)Abstract
An active presence of private companies is essential for urban economic development, but at the same time
a source of concern when it comes to bear on the protecting of the environment —being an especially delicate
issue in such cities that enjoy a rich environmental patrimony as is the case in Florianopolis, located in the
Southern region of Brazil. The purpose of this article is to discuss how the municipal administration can benefit
from economic growth while at the same time maintain its sustainable development goal when in the
forefront of facing up to the territorial impact of the market. The authors attempt to point up some of the
positive common points that characterize urban, environmental and private management as grounds for a
fresh strategy for urban development.
