Abstract

As the controversia alfonsiana shows, Alfonso of Cartagena was keenly interested in the medieval italian tradition abut Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics. This article proposes chapters from the Etica in volgare by Taddeo Alderotti (XIII century)—an important texts born from this tradition, on which Brunetto Latini’s Etike depends—with a commentary. The text is about Aristotelian magnanimity, a main issue within the european concept of kingship.
