Abstract

Jodocus Badius Ascensius publishes in many occasions the grammatical work the Doctrinale by Alexandre Villedieu, in spite of his ambivalent feelings towards it. Traditionally, this incongruence has been explained by summoning Badius’s commercial interests. In this paper, by an intratextual reading of the prefaces, an alternative explanation is offered.
