Abstract:

Prevalence data indicate that it is easy to find, at least, one student with any types of dyslexia disability in each classroom, hence the importance of knowing these difficulties. A conceptual approximation is carried out, getting beyond the divergence and exclusion criteria, transforming even the concept of “dyslexia” into “dyslexic errors”. The causes for these types of errors are analysed, maintaining the visual and phonological hypotheses. Then, two types of dyslexia, phonological and superficial with distinguishing difficulties, are differentiated to, later on, analyse another current polemic: dyslexia, deficit or retardation? Once the concept, causes and types of dyslexia are developed, the article is finished by emphasising the acquisition of some basic prerequisites which come before the learning of reading and writing to face this complex learning with success guarantee.
