At the southern end of the Catalan Costal Chains there are several caves filled by siliciclastic sandstones and limestone clasts. Those are found interstratified with Jurassic and Cretaceous units. After the development of a karstic relief that favoured the generation of many caves in the Cuevas Labradas Formation their sedimentary infill is related to the Sands of Utrillas Formation. The primary tractive sedimentary structures developed in the sedimentary infill of the caves suggest turbulent flows in Upper Flow Regime. The infilling is located between Albian and Cenomanian stages. The mineralogy, the texture and the morphology of grains indicate that the primary origin of the materials is the Armorican quartzites of the Ordovician period.
