She/Her Temperature-related strength decrease in a granodiorite from an archaeological area affected by fires

Fires are one of the main threats for Natural and Cultural Heritage. The sudden temperature change during a fire promotes the decrease of the mechanical strength of rocks. This paper evaluates the mechanical effects generated during high temperatures in samples of a granodiorite related with the archaeological site of “El Berrueco (Ávila – Salamanca). Results show a decrease of mechanical properties, which is minor up to 400ºC and pervasive and catastrophic at 600ºC and above.
